Kazuhiro Hada (Mizusawa VLBI Observatory, NAOJ), "Expanding VLBI in East Asia: present and future."
VLBI collaboration in East Asia is rapidly growing in recent years. The East Asian VLBI Network is a joint collaborative effort among countries in East Asia and South East Asia to form a single large VLBI network by combining KVN, VERA, CVN and some more individual radio telescopes in this region. Since its start of regular operation in 2018, approximately 1000hours of observing time per year have been offered to astronomers in all over the world and an increasing number of scientific outcomes have recently been produced. Also a fraction of EAVN observing time is jointly operated with the radio telescopes in Italy as the EATING VLBI, offering a rare opportunity to make regular VLBI monitoring at global baselines. In this talk, I will overview the present status of EAVN with recent highlights of scientific outcomes (primarily on AGN). I will also overview ongoing upgrades of EAVN and VERA observing capabilities with prospects for the future collaboration with Italy.
