SFR4ALL: Intercalibrating indicators of Star Formation Rate across scales and cosmic time
The SFR4ALL project aims to establish a coherent calibration of Star Formation Rate (SFR) indicators across different spatial scales and cosmic distances, from the Milky Way and nearby external galaxies to high-redshift systems at Cosmic Noon (redshift ~ 2-3) and the Epoch of Reionization (redshift > 6). Historically, the Galactic and extragalactic communities have worked in isolated compartments, and SFR4ALL brings these two groups together—for the first time—to conduct a systematic analysis of SFR estimation in galaxies. The project integrates the analysis of multi-band observational data (e.g., Spitzer, Herschel, JWST, ALMA, Euclid) with advanced magneto-hydrodynamic numerical simulations. SFR4ALL will also enable predictions for future far-infrared space missions, such as NASA’s PRIMA.
Planned activities:
For the local Universe, activities include analyzing the Kennicutt-Schmidt relation in nearby galaxies using Milky Way SFR calibrations and studying physical property effects. For the distant Universe (z=2-7), we will perform resolved SED-fitting on JWST, ALMA, and Euclid maps, compare data with simulations, and make predictions for the future far-IR mission PRIMA.
