Clancy James (Curtin University), "Modelling the FRB population"
Estimating the properties of the population of fast radio bursts (FRBs) requires modelling both a hypothesised true distribution and various experimental biases. We have recently developed a model that fits for the true FRB population while accounting for telescope beamshape, the probability distribution of FRB DM values from the intergalactic medium (IGM) and FRB hosts, and the intrinsic FRB width distribution. I will present a wide variety of results from fitting this model to FRB data from ASKAP and Parkes, which in particular finds evidence for a cosmologically evolving FRB population.
