Hassan Abdalla (North-West University), "Probing fundamental physics and cosmology using Gamma ray observations"

Gamma-ray photons from distant astronomical objects with energies greater than the threshold energy for electron-positron pair creation are expected to be annihilated due to their absorption by Extragalactic Background Light (EBL). I will talk about particular challenges of gamma-ray observations compared to other electromagnetic wave-bands, the sources of gamma ray photons, and how the EBL gamma-gamma absorption may be exploited to probe fundamental physics and cosmology.
